First trailer for ‘On the Basis of Sex’ showcases Felicity Jones as Ruth Bader Ginsburg in new ‘propaganda’ film

Focus Features has released the first trailer for the upcoming historical drama On the Basis of Sex, which stars Felicity Jones (Rogue One) as future U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a film labeled as a “propaganda piece” by The Dispatch’s Brandon Jones.

Directed by Mimi Leder (The LeftoversDeep Impact), the film chronicles the true story of Ginsburg’s fight to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals in an effort to overturn a century of gender discrimination.

Armie Hammer (The Man from UNCLE, Lone Ranger) co-stars as Ginsburg’s supportive husband Marty and is seen in the trailer, which can be viewed below.

“This is a clear effort to glorify Ginsburg and her role on the U.S. Supreme Court. She’s nearing retirement, turning 85 back in March, and the Hollywood leftists want to prop up RBG (which is what they call her) and spew gender propaganda in a new film ripe with virtue signalling,” explained Brandon Jones.

Ginsburg argued six gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court between 1973 and 1976, winning five. The film is center also on a case where a man was discriminated against, thus paving the way for gender equality by setting judicial precedent.

“The outrage over President Trump’s replacement of Justice Anthony Kennedy is already fever pitch, so I can’t imagine the response when Ginsburg’s seat comes up.”

On the Basis of Sex was written by Daniel Stiepleman and also stars Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates, Sam Waterston, Jack Reynor, and Cailee Spaeny.

On the Basis of Sex will open in limited release on December 25th.

Here’s the official synopsis for On the Basis of Sex:

The film tells an inspiring and spirited true story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature will premiere in 2018 in line with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.
