First trailer for ‘Goosebumps 2: Happy Halloween’ reveals the monsters, Slappy’s return but no Jack Black

Fans finally get the official look at the Goosebumps sequel, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, which showcases Halloween coming to alive. The new film, also based on R.L. Stine’s series of books, finally sets up the long rumored film, called Horrorland at one point, Slappy’s Revenge at another.

The new trailer brings to life witches, ghouls, werewolves, and even…gummy bears. Yes, like the gnomes in the first film, the most innocent, silliest creature may turn against you if it escapes the pages of a Stine novel.

The sequel to 2015’s horror-comedy seems to follow a similar premise as a trio of kids discover a book that was never meant to be found titled Haunted Halloween. Once they open it, the various creatures from Stine’s 62 books, which have combined to sell over 400 million copies worldwide, come to life.

Check it out at the bottom.

Oscar winning director Ari Sandel is at the helm. Sandel won for Best Short Film in 2007 with West Bank Story.

The cast includes include Ken Jeong (the Hangover franchise), Wendi Mclendon-Covey (Bridesmaids), Chris Parnell (Hot Rod, Anchorman) Madison Iseman (Bethany in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Ben O’Brien (Manchester by the Sea), Caleel Harris (stars in the upcoming Castle Rock series on Hulu), Jeremy Ray Taylor (It), and Jack Black as the voice of Slappy.

Sandel directs the sequel from a script by screenwriter Darren Lemke (Turbo). Stranger Things and Mr. Mercedes actor Peyton Wich has also been cast in Sony’s Goosebumps 2

Co-stars Dylan Minnette (Prisoners), Ryan Lee (Super 8) and Odeya Rush (The Giver) from the first movie are expected to return in some capacity.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween opens in theaters October 12.
