First ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ trailers, synopsis and details

Fans final get a big dose of promotional material for the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, a full reboot of Spidey with Tom Holland as the webhead, after an introduction in Captain America: Civil War. A tease premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told USA Today that two different versions would debut containing different footage and lines of dialogue – check them out below.

The trailer really emphasizes Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) as Peter Parker’s superhero mentor, continuing from Civil War, where we saw Stark give Peter his updated costume and here, we see him rather urgently trying to keep Peter from running before he walks, super-villain wise. Peter doesn’t listen and fans can be encouraged by the likelihood of a Marvel Team Up between Iron Man and Spider-Man.

It’s nice to see a kid do that and then try to rectify those mistakes.” This direction was expected, especially since we’ve watched Uncle Ben’s death play out in two different film series already.

Fans get their first good look at Michael Keaton’s Vulture after concept art of teased the look. Vulture is a bitter, menacing figure who threatens to murder anyone Peter cares about if he doesn’t back off.

“The first time we see the Vulture is terrifying,” Holland teases. “It’s like a horror movie: really scary, very intense and shocking.”

Fans can expect a different Spidey villain according to director Jon Watts, who says: “It’s fun to think that if Spider-Man is a regular kid who becomes a superhero, there’s got to be a bunch of regular guys who become supervillains, too.”

Holland sees Homecoming as less of an action film and  “more a character piece about this kid who’s struggling to talk to girls and also struggling to save the city.”

The Sony/Marvel co production also stars Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and of course Robert Downey Jr. back again as Tony Stark.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jon Watts, Christopher Ford Writer, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers,  Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7.
