First photo of X-Men series ‘Legion’ set for FX with Dan Stevens
FX Networks has given an eight-episode order to Legion, its X-Men-themed pilot starring Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens. The X-Men team of Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg join with Noah Hawley from Fargo to adaptation the new project.
This marks the first live-action cable Marvel series, joining ABC’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix series and a miniseries.
Legion tells the story of a troubled young man, David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.
Stevens stars alongside Fargo‘s Rachel Keller and Jean Smart as well as Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton and Bill Irwin.
Production on the first season of the series, from FX Productions and Marvel Television, will begin this summer in Vancouver for an early 2017 premiere on FX.
“We’ve come to expect excellence from Noah Hawley and with Legion he has delivered another major creative achievement,” said FX’s Nick Grad. “Just as he did in reimagining Fargo, he is bringing an entirely new aesthetic and sensibility to the enormously popular and richly represented X-Men world. The pilot episode is stunning, driven by incredible performances from Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, Rachel Keller and the rest of the cast.”
Hawley will serve as an executive producer along with Shuler Donner, Singer, Kinberg, Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and John Cameron (Fargo).
Legion will be produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television, with FXP handling the physical production.
