First photo Jason Momoa in ‘Batman v Superman’ as costume designer talks
Fans got a little tease from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with director Zack Snyder tweeting the first pic of Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson then offered up some comments on the look.
“There is only one true King. #unitetheseven” – @zacksnyder
Aquaman’s look is a far cry from the orange and green costume which branded Aquaman as one of the lesser, insignificant characters in the Justice League leading to parodies and mocking. This version has Aquaman’s armor, speckled with tattoos and with his trident in hand – very intense.
“It has been a thrill and an honor to bring this iconic character to life for a modern audience,” Wilkinson said to TooFab. “[Director] Zack Snyder has a brilliant vision for making this character powerful and relevant. I enjoyed designing a costume that reflects this vision and honors the character’s rich legacy.”
Aquaman is expected to appear in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in a small role. In fact, Badass Digest suggests that “Aquaman is barely even present, showing up only in a survey of metahumans by Lex Luthor and then again at the very ending, when Batman recruits him for the Justice League.”
The seven is the key figures comprising the Justice League: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman and The Flash with the Green Lantern added later.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will star Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Scoot McNairy, Laurence Fishburne, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa and Jesse Eisenberg.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is coming to theaters on March 25, 2016.
