First look at ‘Avengers Age of Ultron’ villain in SDCC preview, story details emerge

When the new Avengers film arrives, the team is a mess setting up the new villain Ultron. Fans get their first look at Ultron on a new Entertainment Weekly cover as details about the film emerge.

There’s no abdicating heroism.”

“What you said about abdication is apt, but I think it’s also about recognizing limitations,” star Robert Downey Jr. says in the July 16 post. “The downside of self-sacrifice is that if you make it back, you’ve been out there on the spit and you’ve been turned a couple times and you feel a little burned and traumatized.”

In addition to the cover photo featuring the final result of James Spader’s motion captured A.I. antagonist, fans get some details on the film. Stark devises an artificial intelligence leader and army of drones to combat problems on Earth. Unfortunately, the best solution is for Ultron to just eliminate the humans.

“Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” Director Joss Whedon says, “rubbing his hands together,” according to the article.

“He’s on a mission,” Whedon adds with a smile. “He wants to save us.”

Ultron is described as self-aware, ” he’s not just a robot—he’s a program, capable of uploading himself and disappearing not into the clouds but the Cloud. And he has a bad habit of rebuilding himself into stronger and more fearsome physical forms.”

The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Thomas Kretschmann, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to release in theaters on May 1, 2015.
