The victim is 44-year-old Rogelio Estrada Butalid, a commentator for the local Radyo Natin station in Tagum town, Davao Del Norte.
According to Chief Insp. Jed Clamor, Southern Mindanao Region Police spokesperson, Butalid was shot and killed by two motorcycle-riding gunmen at approximately 8:55 am on his way home from his radio show “Ang Kamatuoran”.
Butalid may have made enemies because of his programme that tackled various local issues, including corruption, Clamor said.
Recovered from the crime scene was a slug and six spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol.
This murder follows those of Michael Diaz Milo, a talk show host for DXFM radio, who was killed in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur Friday and broadcaster Joas Dignos was murdered in Valencia town, Bukidnon, Mindanao on November 29.
According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 72 journalists had been killed in the Philippines since 1992, excluding the three latest deaths.
