‘Fast and Furious 7’ set for 2014, new posters for ‘Fast 6’ feature Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker
Fast & Furious 6 doesn’t arrive in theaters until next month and Justin Lin won’t be back for a seventh film in the franchise, but Universal confirmed at CinemaCon that Fast and Furious 7 will arrive next summer.
Per THR, Lin informed studio execs earlier this month that he will not be returning to direct the seventh Fast & Furious film. Universal wants to get things moving on Fast 7 as quickly as possible and was hoping the pic would be ready for a 2014 release.
Lin endorsed James Wan, director of Insidious, to take over, “I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fastfranchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.”
Expect news to be confirmed because production on the new one starts in August. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are set to return for another film with Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese in negotiations.
Fast 6 also stars Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Gina Carano, Jordana Brewster, Luke Evans and Ludacris.
The Fast And The Furious 7 will be released July 11, 2014
Fast And Furious 6 opens May 24 – official synopsis below.
Here’s the official synopsis for Fast & Furious 6:
“Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete. Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home
and make their families whole again.”
