The family of a Pennsylvania man found dead in an elevator shaft following his arrival at a Florida airport is still seeking answers from authorities surrounding how he died.

Chad Wolfe, age 31, arrived in Tampa International Airport just after midnight Friday from Pittsburgh with his girlfriend on ten years with the intent to visit family and head to Daytona Bike Week, as detailed in a TBT March 16 article.

Police detailed their theory with the press saying Wolfe got into an elevator on the third floor of the airport garage, headed to the 7th floor. His luggage and cellphone were found on the seventh floor. Airport maintenance crews reported a malfunctioning elevator a few doors down which led to the discovery of the body.

“It has been over 24 hours since the incident and they don’t have an answer,” his father Garland Wolfe said. “At first they said that he possibly pried the doors open. He’s a small guy. At 145 pounds that’s virtually impossible.”

His girlfriend was apparently waiting for him on the main concourse while she got her luggage from baggage claim, but he never returned.

There was no immediate evidence of foul play, but investigators were still trying to determine how Wolfe got into the shaft.

The medical examiner will determine Wolfe’s cause of death.

He and his girlfriend had been together for 10 years. He rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle for fun and he worked every day alongside his dad.
