False alarm in Spain: Ebola test negative in suspected case

In a follow-up to a report yesterday, laboratory analysis on samples from a suspected Ebola patient hospitalized in a Spanish hospital proved negative for the lethal filovirus.

An article by Matthew Bennett in The Spain Report notes the La Fe Hospital in Valencia issued a statement at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening saying that the lab results, which had been sent to Spain’s National Microbiology Centre near Madrid, had tested negative for the Ebola virus, and that the patient, a man from Guinea Conakry, was making “encouraging progress”.
