‘Fairness Is Overrated’ Book Review: The new leadership ‘handbook’ for Christians
Let’s just cut to the chase: If you are a Christian business owner or a leader/teacher at your church, then Fairness Is Overrated is a must read – even if you’re “not a reader.”
Tim Stevens breaks apart leadership with the lens of a Christian like a masterful surgeon in an operating room. Like Dave Ramsey on finances, Stevens doesn’t waste time with eloquent vocabulary or a list self-gratulatory accomplishments to explain how and why the Christian should lead others.
If you truly don’t want to change your ways, then don’t crack the book.
You will be challenged to “Go Dark” (live without technology), vacation from church (Yes, even your OWN church) and “Stalk” applicants’ social media to ensure you KNOW who you may be hiring. By the way, that’s all in just the first third of Fairness Is Overrated and 51 Other Leadership Principles.
All of the cliches and buzzwords are combed through to find the true Christian essence to lead appropriately and effectively. “Teams Trump Personality” or “Lead Confidently Through a Crisis” may sound like chapters you’ve read elsewhere, but Stevens doens’t need to reinvent the wheel to assist the reader improve and excel.
No, instead, Fairness shaves off the rough edges, calls out our character, commitment to our families and our willingness to sacrifice to a higher calling. Stevens neither bludgeons the secular reader over the head with scriptures nor bores a pastor with business principles.
There is no reason to carve another Mount Rushmore and Stevens doesn’t try…instead, he points out pracitical applications to help each reader find success for themselves.
Not everyone is “a reader” and not everyone has a ton of time to read a book. This is what makes Stevens a great author, Fairness is clear, concide, easy to read and you’ll quick flip through pages without watching the clock.
Overall Fairness Is Overrated receives 4 out of 5 stars
