Facts the pro-life movement needs to know about abortion, freedom of conscience and the ‘pro-abortion’ crowd
CAN WE STAY FOCUSED ON ADOPTION, CUTTING ADOPTION RED TAPE
One of the most common attacks for the pro-choice and pro-abortion crowd is that pro-lifers won’t take the unwanted children or should just save those already in Foster Care, needing a home.
That is a 100% true statement.
The pro-life movement needs to stay focused on rescuing the “unwanted children” but also fighter harder and louder to make adoption more accessible.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Children’s Bureau reports that nearly 400,000 American children were in foster care in 2012, and about a quarter of those were waiting to be adopted.
Many potential adoptive parents don’t realize that “because these children are in the custody of the county or the state, that county or state covers all those court costs that an individual would pay for a private agency,” explains Rita Soronen, president and CEO of the nonprofit Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Want to adopt? Here’s the first step: navigate the law.
- Federal laws related to adoption
- State laws related to adoption
- State laws on domestic adoption
- State laws on intercountry adoption
- State laws on postadoption
- Adoption and Child Welfare Law Site
Oh, an get a lawyer. Have a lot of money to pay the numerous fees because we’ve made adoption TOO EXPENSIVE.
Live Strong notes that “If you would like to adopt a child, but do not have a lot of money to spend on agency fees, attorneys and international travel, consider a domestic adoption through your state’s child protection agency. State agencies typically have the lowest fees and often offer adoption subsidies for persons adopting children with disabilities, older children or sibling groups. According to Adopting.org, the cost of these public agency adoptions as of August 2010 typically ranges from no cost to $2,500, while domestic and international agency adoptions may cost between $4,000 and $30,000.”
