K.P. Yohannan has become a pioneer for missionary work over the years and has taught and inspired many people to dedicate themselves to a missionary life. Let’s take a look at the man himself, where he came from and the good work that he has done throughout his career.

Beginnings

Yohannan was born in 1950 and was raised in Kerala, India by a St.Thomas Syrian Christian family. The young Yohannan was interested in missionary work from an early age and in 1966 he joined the missionary organization Operation Mobilization where he would work throughout India providing care and education for 8 years.

At the age of 24 Yohannan headed off to Criswill Bible Institute in Dallas, Texas to study theology, he graduated in 1978 and in doing so became the first international student in the college’s history to earn his degree.

Gospel for Asia

Gospel for Asia was set up whilst Yohannan was still studying and serving as pastor of a local church in Dallas. Following a year of training missionaries, he left his church in 1979 to dedicate himself to missionary work through his new organization.

Gospel for Asia started out in India, working in the slums to spread the word of God and offer education and basic healthcare. As the years went by, the organization grew throughout India and later throughout Asia, most notably in the south east. As the number of locations grew, so too did the type of projects that the organization put in place. Here are just some of the programs that Gospel for Asia currently offers those in need.

  • Slum Ministry
  • Helping Women
  • Bridge of Hope, program dedicated to children
  • Leprosy support
  • Disaster relief

K.P. Yohannan’s vision of taking the World out of poverty through missionary work and teaching the values of a Christian lifestyle is far from complete, however, the amount of lives that have been changed by his organization is in the millions. Currently, Gospel for Asia has Bible schools and ministries in over 50 countries and year on year it continues to train more missionaries and grow stronger.

Literary Work

K.P. Yohannan is not only a keynote speaker, radio presenter and theological expert but he has also penned more than 200 books which have been published in India and 8 which have bene published in the U.S. His book Revolution In World Missions has sold over 2 million copies and his literature has been used by many throughout India to teach and inspire others to take on the work of the Lord in helping to end social injustices.
