Expansive and Expensive: The Priciest Properties on the Planet

There are some simply stunning and incredible properties dotted all around the world and even if they are way beyond the financial reach of many of us, it doesn’t stop us dreaming and taking a look inside, when the chance arises.

When it comes to attractive properties in general, you can often plenty of new details at Chappell and Matthews. When talking about the priciest properties on the planet, here are some examples of what might be on your shopping list if you have the wealth to match the price tag.

Here is a look at some of the expansive and expensive properties in the world, in no particular order, but all highly desirable in many people’s eyes.

Trade up to Updown

Situated in the UK and in the county of Surrey, Updown Court is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing and imposing properties you could want to find, and a real bargain at £35 million all things considered.

If you are wondering how that price tag could represent a bargain, consider that for your money will buy you, 103 rooms, no less than five individual swimming pools, a bowling alley, a tennis court (naturally), a cinema and expansive underground garage, plus a panic room.

If you like the idea of all that space inside and out, as it has 58 acres of grounds to wander around too, Updown Court also has the added attraction of allowing you to become neighbours with rock royalty and real royalty in the form of Sir Elton John and the Duchess of York.

Spelling Manor is the epitome of the LA lifestyle

Sometimes this property is simply referred to as The Manor, but it is officially known as Spelling Manor.

If you want to acquire this property, you will have to negotiate terms with the daughter of the motor racing mogul Bernie Ecclestone, and you are probably going to have to pay north of $55 million to be taken seriously.

The property was originally the creation of Aaron and Candy Spelling, which is where the name comes from and this video gives you a look inside the property before it was bought by Petra Stunt.

Built in 1988 and located in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles California, the property ticks all of the usual trophy property boxes, with a swimming pool, tennis courts, cinema, bowling alley and lots more besides. It also has some surprises lurking behind some of the doors inside this 56,000 square feet mansion, such as not one but three different present wrapping rooms, so you probably have to be of a generous nature if to make the most of all the living space you have there.

The legend of Xanadu

As you might expect, there are plenty of stories surrounding the property nicknamed Xanadu 2.0, which is owned by one of the wealthiest couples in the world, Bill and Melinda Gates.

It took the Gates about $63 million and seven years to build this 66,000 square feet hi-tech mansion located in Medina Washington, which is almost chump change compared to Bill Gates estimated net worth of $81 billion.

They say that money makes money and it is hard to argue with that observation, when you consider that Gates paid $2 million for the original lot back in 1988 and at current values, the property built on the land is estimated to be worth about $123 million.

It apparently costs him about $1 million a year in property taxes, let alone the upkeep costs, but in addition to all the usual luxury amenities, there are some cool gadgets incorporated within the property.

If you are lucky enough to be invited as a guest to the property, you will be given a pin on entry, that interacts with sensors all around the house, allowing to change and control temperature and lighting settings to suit your own preferences, as you move around.

You can even change the artwork on the walls with the touch of a button and no visit to the property would be complete without a visit to the trampoline room, which is 20-feet tall, so that you don’t bang your head while you are having a bounce around.

There are many unbelievable properties in glamorous locations around the world. They never be within the budget of the majority of us, but they certainly provide some inspiration and interest when you get a chance to see how the rich and famous fill their time.
