Evangeline Lilly confirmed for Wasp role in upcoming Marvel films, not in ‘Civil War’
During the lead-up to Ant-Man, Marvel Exec Kevin Feige addressed the fallout from the credit scene where Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne is presented with a Wasp costume. Asked directly by Slash Film, Feige says it won’t be in Captain America: Civil War, but promises it will be soon.
“It’s a good question, and it will certainly be in phase three. Where exactly in phase three I’m not sure, but it won’t be in Civil War.”
Paul Rudd has a confirmed role as Ant-Man in Captain America: Civil War, but Lilly as The Wasp will have to wait. Feige admits that the character was originally written into the Civil War screenplay, writes Slash.
“She was included in early versions of Civil War but there are so many characters in Civil War that we didn’t want to do her a disservice, like she flies in, ‘I’ve got the costume now’, and she flies out. With Ant-Man, and I’m not saying thats what Ant-Man does in the movie, but we already know him, we’ve already seen him. We haven’t seen her as Wasp and we don’t want to rob the opportunity of seeing her in the outfit for at least almost the first time, and seeing her dynamic with Scott in a way it could play out, so we’re saving it. But its going to be in Phase three for sure.”
Well, fans can rest assured that Wasp will make an appearance soon, possibly in next year’s Doctor Strange or the first Avengers: Infinity War film set for 2018.
May 3rd 2019, which is the conclusion of Marvel’s Phase three in The Avengers: Infinity War – Part II.
I hope their intentions for pushing Lilly to Phase 3 are honorable, as they say in the article. Still, I’m looking forward to it.
