Emily VanCamp talks ‘Captain America Civil War’ cast, ‘stealing a prop’

Captain America: Civil War hits cinemas this week and Emily VanCamp is back, reprising her role as Sharon Carter, introduced in Winter Soldier. VanCamp offered a lot of praise for her co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen during an interview with Cosmo UK.

“Everyone on set was super funny, engaging and there for the work,” she said. “It was amazing. Yes, you’re surrounded by a lot of male energy and it’s hard to find your place because there are a lot of big personalities but everyone was great. Lizzie is incredible and Scarlett is amazing…”

“It’s very cool to be part of these teams and kick a little butt. It’s always fun. Everyone keeps saying ‘but you don’t have a superpower.’ But I’m like, ‘we don’t need a superpower, we’re women. We have female powers, thank you.'”

Emily, 29, who plays Agent Carter also commented on Charlize Theron’s recent claims that attractive women can find it hard to win meaty roles in Hollywood. “I think it’s hard for people to see past what is right in front of them in this industry,” she said. “Sometimes you have to do a little bit of convincing.

“No one believed that I could play this really tortured, angry woman who was trying to get revenge on somebody when I won the role on Revenge. You have to prove it and it’s a little frustrating at times because you don’t want to be put into a box and then have to constantly try and fight your way out of the last thing you did.”

Emily was asked if she took mementoes off set. “Robert Downey Jr. said he’d taken some big sign,” she said. “I’m not sure exactly which sign it was but it was very important. I would never ever mess with Marvel.”

She joked, “They have imaginary drones hidden all over the place calculating every little thing we do. I’m too scared. Robert Downey Jr. can feel free to take a sign or two, but I’m not there yet.”
