Emergency workers Cyrus Reed, Jerry Chapman, Perry Calvin identified as victims of Texas plant explosion
Authorities have begun identifying the victims of last week’s massive fertilizer explosion in West, Texas, and the majority of men killed in the catastrophe were local rescue workers.
There are reportedly 14 bodies recovered from the West Chemical and Fertilizer Co. outside of Waco, Texas, where a gigantic explosion late Wednesday night leveled the facility and the surrounding homes and buildings for blocks in each direction.
Today Cyrus Reed, Jerry Chapman and Perry Calvin were identified as “first responders,” who rushed out of a volunteer firefighter training seminar Wednesday evening in order to battle the blaze.
“The three men grabbed their gear and sped toward a growing smoke plume in West,” the Dallas News reports. “It would be their last call.”
Chapman and Reed were volunteers at the Abbott Fire Company, both worked there for nearly four years. Fundraisers and vigils are already being organized to help the families of these fallen men.
