Elizabeth Warren refuses to shake hands with Betsy DeVos

The US Senate hasn’t been kind to the Trump cabinet member during their confirmation hearings but Massachusetts’ Senator Elizabeth Warren even refused to be civil or decent. This was the hearing for Betsy DeVos in front of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Tuesday

As the DC Examiner reports (with video): [W]hen she reached out to Warren, Warren waved and continued walking.

Check out the clip below.

This was yet another chapter in the Elizabeth Warren Holier Than Thou Saga, chronicled in part by Front Page’s Daniel Greenfield last June: These days she tours as Hillary Clinton’s attack Chihuahua lobbing piercing insults at Trump. Like the time she accused Trump of being “greedy”. Then she charged him with having a “goofy hat”.

“Shut up, Elizabeth Warren,” Greenfield wrote. “We don’t need another Hillary.”

Warren attacked DeVos as being inexperienced. Here’s the transcript of the exchange, video is at the bottom.

SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: Mrs. DeVos, many of my Democratic colleagues have pointed out your lack of experience in K-12 public schools, but I would like to ask you about your qualifications for leading the nation on higher education.

The Dept. of Education is in charge of making sure that the $150 billion that we invest in students each year gets into the right hands, and that students have the support they need to be able to pay back their student loans.

The Dept. of Education is responsible for managing a trillion dollar student loan bank, and distributing $30 billion in Pell Grants to students every year. The financial futures of an entire generation of young people depend on your department getting that right.

Mrs. DeVos, do you have any experience in running a bank?

BETSY DEVOS: Senator, I do not.

WARREN: Have you ever managed or overseen a trillion dollar loan program.

DEVOS: I have not.

WARREN: How about a billion dollar loan program?

DEVOS: I have not.

WARREN: Okay. So no experience managing a program like this. How about participating in one?

I think it is important for the person who is in charge of our financial aid programs to understand what it is like for students and their families who are struggling to pay for college. Mrs. DeVos, have you ever taken out a student loan from the federal government to help pay for college?

DEVOS: I have not.

WARREN: Have any of your children had to borrow money in order to go to college?

DEVOS: They have been fortunate not to.

WARREN: Have you had any personal experience with a Pell Grant?

DEVOS: Not personal experience, but certainly friends and students with whom I have worked.

WARREN: So you have no personal experience with college financial aid or management of higher education.

  1. Warren Cosford says:

DeVos, assured the committee that she has nothing to do with the contributions made by her mother’s foundation, the Prince Foundation (formerly known as the Edgar and Elsa Prince Foundation). DeVos said that her immediate family — presumably meaning her husband and children — had nothing to do with the financing of anti-gay causes and groups and that she has never supported “conversion therapy” for gay people.

Newly elected Democratic Sen. Margaret Hassan pressed DeVos on these claims. She asked DeVos directly if she was on the board of her mother’s foundation during the period in which large donations were made to Focus on the Family. DeVos said that she was not on the foundation’s board.

When I heard that, I pulled up the 990 tax documents of the Prince Foundation, which I investigated for my book “Blackwater.” Betsy DeVos was clearly listed as a vice president of the foundation’s board, along with her brother Erik, for many years, at least until 2014. DeVos was a vice president during the precise period Hassan was referring to.

    • Brandon Jones says:

Department of Education requires a pro-gay stance? We covered the exchange with Hassan and DeVos does not have a ton of experience and didn’t give satisfactory answers to the Democrats, but that is not a surprise.

You skipped over the content of the post, Warren won’t even shake hands with the next head of the Education – interesting
