Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson talk ‘Avengers 2’ accents, long term contract
From Godzilla to The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be side-by-side. While promoting Godzilla, the duo talked with Collider in an interview released Monday.
First up was the topic of the long-term film deal, which can be “daunting,” but Olsen and Taylor-Johnson said that wasn’t as important as trying to work on their characters.
AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON: That was never really part of it. I didn’t have any issues, but there were more important things to me about it in terms of our characters and what we can bring to it.
ELIZABETH OLSEN: And our characters are still continuing to change and grow. It actually just keeps getting cooler.
TAYLOR-JOHNSON: Yeah, they totally delivered.
OLSEN: They care a lot.
TAYLOR-JOHNSON: They care. They’re protective. It’s their own characters. They’ve got so much knowledge you work from, and there’s a backstory with these two characters. Where they grew up and how they grew up and how they’re affected by that, so we’re trying to bring as much into it, as much as we can.
There was some joking and back-and-forth over the characters and their “European accents.”
TAYLOR-JOHNSON: Well, it’s funny because—
OLSEN: [laughs] Are you really going to answer that? SHHHHH! [laughs]
TAYLOR-JOHNSON: It’s subject to change.
OLSEN: Always do reshoots.
Next came the topic of director Joss Whedon and what it’s like working with him.
OLSEN: I find him to be very specific, and he knows exactly what he needs, and when he gets it, you move on. And he’s fun. He’s an excited kid. You feel like you’re in good hands also. Everyone at Marvel is fun to hang out with. They’re all great. I’m having a blast. I’m having so much fun right now. I can’t wait to go back.
TAYLOR-JOHNSON: I think Joss has got such a mad ball of energy. I haven’t even seen the half of it.
OLSEN: I do feel like the new kid on the block, though.
TAYLOR-JOHNSON: I do feel like that too. We move so quick and just try to get used to the character. We’ve done it four times now.
OLSEN: We’re definitely the new kids on the block, which is definitely a fun feeling. And it’s intimidating but awesome.
