Eleanor Clift: Benghazi an ‘opportunistic terrorist attack inflamed by the anti-Muslim video’

Just when you thought you heard it all about the tragedy in Benghazi, Libya nearly two years ago, Daily Beast columnist, Eleanor Clift offers her twisted spin on the incident.

During Friday’s airing of The McLaughlin Group, long-time panelist, Clift said the following:

“I’d like to point out that Ambassador Stevens was not ‘murdered,’ (air quotes added) but died of smoke inhalation in a CIA safe room.” This of course raised the eyebrows of her fellow panelists.

Pat Buchanan immediately countered Clift’s assessment saying, “It was a terrorist attack, Eleanor, he was murdered in a terrorist attack.” Clift, not one to let a point go without a counterpoint chimes back saying it was an opportunistic terrorist attack inflamed by the anti-Muslim video.

She not surprisingly defended Hillary Clinton and called for David Petraeus’ head– “It was still a CIA [outpost],” Clift said. “If you’re going to put somebody on trial, put David Petraeus on trial, not Hillary Clinton.”
