Edward Archbold, death Florida roach eating contest winner, cause of death revealed
The man who died moments after winning a roach eating contest shocked spectators and now the local medical examiner reveals insight into his death.
Edward Archbold, the 32-year-old Florida man appears to have died from asphyxia, choking on one of the “partially eaten insects.”
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office:
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office has concluded that the winner of a roach-eating contest died from asphyxia. The death has been ruled an accident.
Archbold participated in the October 5 contest at the Ben Siegel Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach, where he could win a python.
After winning, he began vomiting and then collapsed. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Archbold to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead.
None of the other contestants presented any medical issues after the contest.
