‘Dune’ wraps: full breakdown of cast, set for 2020

Director Denis Villeneuve has wrapped filming the science fiction motion picture Dune, a new retelling of the popular book(s) by Frank Herbert.

Creator Brian Herbert, son of Frank, announced the news by way of a tweet: “Filming on the initial Dune film has been completed, is “in the can,” and there is been a wrap party. Some actors are by now performing on other initiatives, and stating terrific issues about how Denis Villeneuve ran the film sets.”

The official synopsis of the film states, “A mythic and emotionally billed hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a amazing and gifted younger male born into a terrific destiny outside of his comprehension, who must travel to the most perilous world in the universe to ensure the future of his loved ones and his men and women. As malevolent forces explode into conflict above the planet’s special offer of the most precious useful resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s finest potential—only all those who can conquer their dread will endure.”

Dune features an all-star cast Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, Chang Chen and Javier Bardem.

Hans Zimmer is set to compose the background new music for the film. The composer experienced to stop his normal collaborator Christopher Nolan’s Tenet to operate on Dune. Greig Fraser is the cinematographer.

Dune is set to arrive in theaters on November 20, 2020.

On that cast: Villeneuve (Sicario, Blade Runner 2049) has cast Chalamet as Paul with Isaac starring alongside Ferguson as Paul’s parents: Duke Leto and Lady Jessica.

Bardem (No Country For Old Men) will play Stilgar, a leader in the Fremen tribe who takes Chalamet’s Paul under his wing after his family is betrayed and the survivors are on the run in the wastelands of Arrakis. Zendaya is again the key love interest, Chani, who is also the daughter of planetologist Liet-Kynes.

Stilgar is a major character in the novel, one who helps shape Paul into a leader and acts as his general as they take the fight directly to their enemies.

Josh Brolin will go from his iconic role as Thanos to playing Gurney Halleck, the weapons master of House Atreides and Paul’s mentor. Momoa; meanwhile, will go from Aquaman to Duncan Idaho, House Atreides’ master of swords. Idaho is a major player throughout all of the Dune novels, so Momoa can expect to see a lot of Idaho.

Rampling is Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, the Emperor’s “truthsayer” and Lady Jessica’s Bene Gesserit mentor.

Skarsgård is the evil Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Leto’s arch enemy with Bautista (also in Blade Runner 2049) going from Drax to Glossu “The Beast” Rabban, the Baron’s monstrous nephew and henchman.

Dastmalchian is Piter De Vries, a Harkonnen “Mentat” (someone who has been trained to think and compute at a superhuman level; computers and “thinking machines” having been outlawed in Herbert’s Duneiverse

Chang Chen plays Doctor Wellington Yueh, a senior medic of House Atreides.

Stephen McKinley Henderson has also been cast in an unknown role, with the strongest possibility that he’ll be Thufir Hawat, the Atreides’ Mentat and master of assassins. But he could also be Liet-Kynes, or even Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV.

Villeneuve has also been developing a spin-off TV series for Warner Bros.’ new streaming service HBO Max.
