Drive towards Linking Voter IDs, Aadhar Cards Fails to Evoke Interest in India

Kolhapur: Official drives aren’t clichés anymore with the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation willing to take a stand towards linking residential Voter IDs to the specific Aadhar cards, right before the elections.

What started off with intent has fizzled out in due course of time, owing to some inexplicable reasons. The figures have been dampening enough when compared to other district zones as we only have a mere 2.5 percent voters linked, both across the Northern and Southern constituencies. Even the remotest of constituencies like Radhanagari and Chandgad have better figures with something in the range of 10 percent. Owing to the lackluster stats, district admins have appealed to the politicians for taking ahead this drive in the desired manner, mostly to curb down the anomaly of bogus voting.

As per the demographics, Kolhapur is segregated into 77 zones with the northern constituency grabbing 51 of these and the southern region holding onto 24 of the remaining ones.

Sangita Chougle, District Election Officer sounded optimistic regarding the talukas and villages on the whole but her concerns towards the faltering city based figures can be clearly seen. She feels that these disappointing figures have emanated out of the lack of interest among the city dwellers.

With the election dates approaching, linking seems to be the only option in hand for the administration that could prevent falsified voting. Again, the election commission has proposed a deadline of July end for the process to conclude.

Even if the procedure hasn’t attracted a lot of attention in Kolhapur, other cities have understood the efficacy of the same which aims at preventing fraudulent practices like duplication, cross voting and many more. This procedure, if successfully initiated, can take forward the concept of righteous voting, allowing citizens to exercise their rights in the best possible way.

Ashvini Waghmale, Deputy Commissioner, KMC hasn’t agreed to the controversial statistics, hailing the data analysts at fault. Waghmale has stood beside the prior intimations sent out via the Booth Level officers who have been diligently working within the city limits for achieving the desired results. The contradicting instances look dwindling enough with Waghmale looking pretty confident of the linking process being quite certain of meeting the deadline. Her optimism has been quite heartening with 3 BLOs working seriously towards making this drive a big success.

With July lurking around, the actual stats will soon be made public.
