Donald Trump begins GOP debate by insulting Rand Paul, including his looks

Jake Tapper kicked off the second GOP Presidential debate by attempting to stoke some fire by asking Carly Fiorina is she agreed with some assertions of Bobby Jindal over Donald Trump’s temper and “having his finger on the nuclear button.” Over a brief exchange, the focus turned to Trump, who didn’t begin with the topic at hand, instead, taking aim at Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.

“First of all, Rand Paul shouldn’t even be on this stage, he’s No. 11, he’s got 1 percent in the polls and how he even got up here…There’s too many people up here anyway.”

He then contradicted his insult by stating that he think’s he “has a great temperament.”

“I kind of have to laugh, when I think of, ‘Hmm, it sounds like a non-sequitur.’ He was asked whether or not he would be capable … to be in charge of the nuclear weapons and all of a sudden there’s a sideways attack at me. I think that really goes to really the judgment. Do we want someone with that kind of character, with that kind of careless language, to be negotiating with Putin?” Paul said.

He added: “I’m very concerned about having him in charge of the nuclear weapons because I think his visceral response to attack people on their appearance — short, tall, fat, ugly — my goodness, that happened in junior high. Are we not way above that? Would we not all be worried to have someone like that in charge of the nuclear arsenal?”

“I have never attacked him on his looks,” Trump corrected Paul, “believe me, there’s plenty of subject matter there.”

The audience mostly laughs with some boos mixed in.

The topic moved on as the hits on Trump continued.
