Dominica reports three more chikungunya cases
Health officials on the island of Dominica have reported three more confirmed cases of chikungunya, bringing the total to four, according to a Dominica News Online report Tuesday.
According to the report, the new confirmed cases are from the Health Districts of Marigot, Castle Bruce and Roseau and all cases are locally transmitted.
Dominica recorded their first chikungunya case earlier this month.
Health officials announced the following responses as part of their integrated management and prevention strategy: clinical and laboratory surveillance, public education and mosquito control activities.
The latest numbers of chikungunya cases in the Caribbean reported last week by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC) added up to nearly 800 cases, with St Martin (FR) accounting for about half of all cases.
Dominica, officially the Commonwealth of Dominica, is an island nation in the Lesser Antilles region of the Caribbean Sea, south-southeast of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique.
