‘Doctor Who’ star Matt Smith will battle with John Connor in ‘Terminator Genesis’

Paramount has confirmed the casting of Doctor Who star Matt Smith in next summer’s Terminator: Genesis. Deadline broke the news Friday and the Internet lit up with excitement.

Terminator close up photo“Smith will join Game Of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke (Sara Connor), Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke (John Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese), Dayo Okeniyi (Danny Dyson, son of the brainiac cyborg developer played by Joe Morton in Terminator: Judgment Day), and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who reprises his signature cyborg,” the initial release stated.

Paramount confirms the details and news of science fiction favorite Smith stating that “Smith will play a new character with a strong connection to John Connor…”

It continues: “Smith is best known for playing The Doctor on the popular “Doctor Who” television series during the 2011-2103 seasons. His other television credits include “Christopher and His Kind,” “Moses Jones,” and “The Street.” He can be seen next on the big screen in “LOST RIVER,” directed by Ryan Gosling, alongside Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes.”

Deadline noted that Smith will have “a major role that will grow in the second and third films.”

This will be the second casting reboot and the fifth film in the Terminator franchise, which has earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Schwarzenegger is the key holdover from the earlier films and promisesIt’s big.  There’s hardcore action and it has some really great visual effects in there, but not over the top.  It’s not a Thortype of movie, even though it’s the same director.  It has good special effects, but just enough to say, ‘Wow, where did that come from?  How did they do that?’”

Paramount will distribute the film worldwide on July 1, 2015.
