‘Doctor Strange’ release date set, set to film at UK’s Pinewood-Shepperton Studio
The Doctor Strange release date has finally been confirmed as part of Marvel’s phase three of new films. The studio is primed to film overseas in the United Kingdom.
Marvel Studios has lined up Ant-Man for July 17, 2015, Captain America 3 will be released on May 6, 2016, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will open on July 28, 2017. Doctor Strange will arrive in 2016, setting up a third Thor film for 2017.
Director Scott Derrickson is already on board and a “2016″ date has been rumored for some time. According to Screen Daily, Marvel is in “advanced negotiations” with the U.K.’s Pinewood-Shepperton Studio to shoot the movie in late 2014/early 2015.
Marvel shot at Shepperton for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor: The Dark World, to name a few. Pinewood also has a positive relationship with Marvel’s parent company Disney, and is currently playing host to Star Wars: Episode VII and Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
Doctor Strange, he’s a “former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme – the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.”
Jack Huston, who just signed on for the Ben-Hur remake had been the most recent big name attached to the role, but there is still no news from Marvel. Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan is playing a character called The Doctor on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but reportedly, that is not connected to the role of Stephen Strange.
There has been no casting announced as Doctor Strange will arrive in theaters July 8, 2016.
