‘Doctor Strange 2’ gets a writer, eyes 2021 release
Delayed by the events of Infinity War, Marvel has finally let the Doctor Strange sequel be confirmed with Scott Derrickson returning to helm the new film. Now That Hashtag Show has confirmed that screenwriter C. Robert Cargill will also be returning to help him pen the script.
The first film was a massive success and Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise the role of The Sorcerer Supreme, joined by Benedict Wong as fellow wizard, Wong. Rachel McAdams is also “likely” to return as Strange’s love interest, after not getting much time in the first film. Mordo was teased in the credits scene and plays a key role as an antagonist to Strange, so it’s likely to expect Chiwetel Ejiofor back in some way with the new primary villain being Nightmare.
Production on Doctor Strange 2 is expected to get underway by spring of 2020, with an eye on a May 2021 release.
Marvel Exec Kevin Feige speaks out about the film during his talk with Cinema Blend.
“Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange one, which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he’s a very big part of [Avengers:] Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things.
