Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ arrives in Tampa at the Straz Center
Disney’s The Lion King may be Tampa’s most eagerly awaited stage production ever as it will leap onto the Morsani Hall stage Jan. 20-Feb. 14, 2016, as part of the Bank of America Best of Broadway Tampa Bay series. Get tickets, times and more info here.
The production features Patrick R. Brown as “Scar,” Gerald Ramsey as “Mufasa,” Mukelisiwe Goba as “Rafiki,” Drew Hirshfield as “Zazu,” Ben Lipitz as “Pumbaa,” Nick Cordileone as “Timon,” Aaron Nelson as “Simba,” Nia Holloway as “Nala,” Keith Bennett as “Banzai,” Tiffany Denise Hobbs as “Shenzi” and Robbie Swift as “Ed.”

The role of “Young Simba” is alternated between BJ Covington and Tré Jones and the role of “Young Nala” is alternated between Savanna Fleisher and Mikari Tarpley.
The North American touring productions of The Lion King have been seen by more than 15 million theatergoers and grossed over $1 billion to date. Having already played more than 70 cities across North America, The Lion King now proudly makes its Tampa return at The Straz Center.
In its 18th year, The Lion King remains ascendant as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world. Since its Broadway premiere on Nov. 13, 1997, 22 global productions have been seen by more than 80 million people and, cumulatively, run a staggering 112 years. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions (under the direction of Thomas Schumacher), The Lion King is only the second show in history to generate five productions worldwide running 10 or more years.

Disney’s The Lion King will play Morsani Hall, Jan. 20-Feb. 14, 2016. Performances are Tuesday – Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m. There are added 2 p.m. matinee performances on Thursday, Jan. 21, and Thursday, Jan. 28.
There is no matinee performance on Saturday, Jan. 30 (Gasparilla). Regularly priced tickets are $35-$120.
A premium seating package is available for $128.50-$178.50, and includes the best seats in the theater, a commemorative souvenir program and a complimentary show merchandise item.
