Disney’s first look at the live-action ‘Aladdin’ film, poster and Mena Messoud
Tapping in on their successful trend of remaking their animated classics into live-action blockbuster hits, Disney will now try their hand at Aladdin with director Guy Ritchie and Will Smith starring in the role of Genie.
The first poster and teaser footage can be found below.
Sadly for fans, there is no glimpse of Smith’s Genie. In the 1992 film, Robin Williams stole the show with a wild, crazy mixture of stand-up, impressions and zany transformations. Smith may bring charisma, but Disney adapting that will be the biggest challenge.
Smith stars with Aladdin (Mena Massoud) and Jasmine (Naomi Scott) with a Genie gotee and ponytail, not blue, but appearing at one point in drag, according to the reports on some showcased footage from CinemaCon.
This new film will feature songs by Alan Menken and La La Land/The Greatest Showman songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
The film also stars Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen and Numan Acar.
Aladdin arrives in theaters on May 24, 2019.
