Disney sets ‘Maleficent Mistress of Evil’ for October with first photo
Angelina Jolie is back as the iconic evil Maleficent.
Disney released a new poster for the upcoming sequel to Maleficent which revealed the movie’s new release date and full title: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which will hit theaters Oct. 18, 2019 — a huge jump up the calendar from its originally-scheduled May 29, 2020, release date.
The first Maleficent was a box office smash when it opened in 2014. It grossed $758.5 million globally on a $180 million budget.
Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville return from the original, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor joining the cast.
Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) directs from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster.
