‘Beauty and the Beast’ ‘Finding Nemo’ ‘Little Mermaid’ ‘Monsters Inc’ returning to theaters in 3D
Spurred by the smashing success of The Lion King‘s 3D re-release, Disney has announced that they’ll be giving the big-screen 3D treatment to Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, and Monsters, Inc. The 3D post-conversion doesn’t bother me so much because as we saw with The Lion King, it wasn’t so much about throwing animation in your face as much as it was about seeing a 2D animated classic given an HD upgrade.
Here are the release dates for the 3D re-releases:
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST – January 13, 2012
FINDING NEMO – September 14, 2012
MONSTERS, INC. – January 18, 2013 (the prequel Monsters University opens in 3D six months later on June 21, 2013)
THE LITTLE MERMAID – September 13, 2013
“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” said Alan Bergman, President, The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”
