Director Marc Webb will not helm ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 4’

While Sony expands the Spider-Man universe with spinoff films (Venom, Sinister Six), director Marc Webb says he’ll only be back for one more Spidey adventure.

“I’d like to be involved [in The Amazing Spider-Man 4] as a consultant, and I’ve already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I’ve had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it’ll be the time to find something else.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 4 is definitely going to happen, as Sony has already announced a May 4, 2018 release date for the sequel, but Webb stepping back and letting a new filmmaker come in isn’t altogether surprising. In fact, fans may welcome the change, allow for new ideas to be infused into the franchise.
Sony has officially signed director Marc Webb to direct the third film in the Spider-Man reboot and  will work with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner, who have already having written a script.

Production may begin as soon as May.

Sony has been bold and public about their goal to have a Spidey yearly beginning in 2016.
