Director Francis Lawrence discusses ‘Hunger Games Catching Fire’ and the love triangle
While still a month away, fans are clamoring for Hunger Games sequel news and new director Francis Lawrence discussed with New York Magazine how the film will be different from the Gary Ross film.
“No shaky cam,” says Lawrence, in reference to the frenetic action sequences of the first film. “I think a lot of people will be happy to hear that.”
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will continue to explore the romantic storyline as well. Katniss will be in the center of the love triangle with Peeta and Gale.
“I felt the love story in general was a bit buried in the first one,” says Lawrence. “I wanted to bring the love story to the surface. And when I say love story, I mean the triangle.”
Lawrence was asked about adding huge names for Catching Fire and Julianne Moore for the Mockingjay films instead of “no-name actors.”
“If you can have Philip Seymour Hoffman, get Philip Seymour Hoffman! And he loved the books, so he signed on. Same with Jeffrey Wright. Same with Julianne. If you can just get those amazing actors, then that’s 80 percent of my job.”
