Director David Yates to return for ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’
The Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, could have a director with Vareity reporting that David Yates is close to sealing a deal to return to the franchise.
“Having taken the helm on the final four films of the main series, Yates clearly possesses an affinity with the material that the studio is keen to tap into once more,” the Aug. 21 article states.
The new film will be set long approximately seventy years before the events of the previous films, and will follow the exploits of adventurer and magical creature aficionado, Newt Scamander.
The screenplay has been penned by J.K. Rowling herself, so Yates is familiar with working alongside the famous author.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling explained of the trilogy.
No actor has been cast for the lead role of Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” in his early 20s, but expect a life changing role for some young actor.
Yates is currently filming the Warner Bros adaptation of Tarzan which stars Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), Samuel L Jackson and Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy).
With a 2016 date, expect news to drop very, very soon.
