‘Die Hard’ returns to theaters for 30th anniversary

The yearlong TCM Big Screen Classics series from Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) presents the breathless action and sardonic wit of Die Hard in cinemas across the country as the iconic ’80s action movie marks its 30th anniversary. Die Hard plays for two days only, November 11 and 14, with new pre- and post-film commentary by TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz.

Fans of Die Hard may never agree about the film’s status as a holiday movie (as opposed to a summer blockbuster with a Christmas setting), but millions of moviegoers do agree that there’s endless appeal in the swaggering, wisecracking John McClane (Bruce Willis) and his single-handed effort to protect a 35-story high-rise from a team of terrorists led by suave Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman).

Both Willis and Rickman made their big-screen debuts in director John McTiernan’s film, which burst on to screens in August 1988 and became not just an instant hit but a movie-industry game changer that remains the gold standard of action movies three decades later.

Event is hosted by Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Twentieth Century Fox on Sunday, November 11 – 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (local time) and Wednesday, November 14 – 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (local time).

Tickets for Die Hard can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 700 select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
