Detroit mother, Priyanks Chakraborty, charged with murdering 2-year-old son
A Detroit mother was charged and arraigned Monday for murder and abuse relative to the death of her 2-year-old son.
Priyanks Chakraborty, 26, has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder and Child Abuse – 1st Degree in the death of her son, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
The boy died at around 8:20 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 in the family’s home on Detroit’s east side.

“We responded to the scene, and the child was unresponsive so we transported him to a local hospital,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig to the press. “A preliminary determination was made that force may have been used that resulted in the child’s death.”
Chakraborty was arrested by police that same day.
An autopsy determined the boy died of asphyxia. Prosecutors allege that Chakraborty choked him to death.
She was arraigned in 36th District Court.
