Dennis Rodman returns to North Korea, Kenneth Bae not on the agenda

Retired basketball star, Dennis Rodman has arrived in North Korea today to meet with “my friend Kim”, his term of endearment for the “hermit kingdom’s” leader, Kim Jong-un.

This is Rodman’s second visit to North Korea this year.

Rodman was clear concerning his agenda to North Korea saying, “I’m just going there on another basketball diplomacy tour.”

“I just want to meet my friend Kim, the marshal, and start a basketball league over there,” Rodman told the Associated Press. “I have not been promised anything. I am just going there as a friendly gesture.”

The former Chicago Bulls star said he is not there to negotiate the release of American Christian, 45-year-old Kenneth Bae saying, “I’m not going to North Korea to discuss freeing Kenneth Bae,” Rodman told Reuters in a telephone interview before he left Beijing for Pyongyang.

Last week, North Korea revoked an invitation for Robert King, the US special envoy for North Korean rights, to visit Pyongyang.

Mr King was expected to appeal for the release of 45-year-old Kenneth Bae, who was sentenced to 15 years’ hard labor in May, on humanitarian grounds.
