Demetrius Griffin identified as dead man found in flooded Detroit basement, he was shot first
The body of a man found flooded basement of an abandoned Detroit house has been identified as Demetrius J. Griffin of Detroit and police have revealed Griffin was shot first.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office determined from an autopsy that Griffin died from a gunshot wound to the chest, said Mary Mazur, a Wayne County spokeswoman, to the press Wednesday.
Detroit Police Officer Adam Madera detailed how officers responded to an anonoymous top and discovered Griffin’s body. The body was found in about 2 or 3 feet of water at the abandoned house. It was recovered by the Detroit Police Underwater Recovery Team.
Dive team member Dean Rademaker told WJBK-TV that the body was visible from outside through a side basement window. He and another member of the team helped searched the basement to make sure nothing else of interest to investigators was inside.
“That’s scary to me because I’m home every night … and I didn’t notice anything in there,” said a neighbor in a Click on Detroit article.
“The neighbor calls the people living on Ohio Street her family. She grew up on the street, played on it but won’t allow her kids to do the same,” the article added.
The tone of their coverage is that there have been shootings in this area, among the several vacant homes, and residents are scared. Some claim to be reaching out the Mayor’s office, but no help has arrived.
