Demarquis Elkins and unidentified teen arrested for Antonio Santiago murder, the second child of Sherry West to die
The shooting of a 13-month-old boy, Antonio Santiago, in his stroller marked the second time mother Sherry West lost her son to violence, she was quoted as saying in a March 23 article on CNN.
UPDATE: New evidence raises questions about the case. Both parents tested positive for gun powder residue – more details here
West has detailed the scene in which two teens asked her for money at gunpoint and then threatened her son when she said she didn’t have any. Two shots were fired grazing the mother before the teen went over and shot the child in the face.
Demarquis Elkins, age 17, and a 14-year-old unidentified juvenile have both been arrested and are both charged with first-degree murder.
This is not the first time West lost a child.
Her 18-year-old son Shaun Glassey was stabbed to death in 2008 when he and a group of boys were going to ambush another kid. The kid wrestled with Glassey and he ended up getting stabbed himself.
“This is the second child that people have taken from me in a tragic way,” West said to CNN. “I’m so afraid to have any more babies now. I tried to raise really good kids in a wicked world.”
“I just took a walk with my baby,” West said. “I can’t believe that this would happen, and I left early in the morning. I thought you know that there would be less people on the road and I wouldn’t be in anybody’s way walking down that road.
“Apparently, either he targeted me or I was just unfortunate,” she said of her encounter with the teenage gunman.
The 14-year-old was not identified because of his age.

This is horrible, the teenagers that did this should be punished immensely, its not fair, for the mother, father and the baby, he didn’t get a chance to live and explore the world, the teenager/teenagers that did this, should deserve the right punishment and i hope they carry this burden on their shoulders, for the rest of their life.
