Dead student found in University of Maryland dorm identified as Sarah Hancock

A 20-year-old university student from Bel Air was found dead in a dorm building on the University of Maryland, College Park campus on Monday, according to university police.

Authorities have identified Sarah Elizabeth Hancock, a 2010 graduate of C. Milton Wright High School, as the vicitm found dead in Kent Hall, a four story co-educational building of student suites and apartments, Monday afternoon.

University officers were called to Kent Hall for “unresponsive student” call and when they arrived, they determined the student was already deceased.

“The unfortunate death appears to be the result of an accident,” police said in a statement.

Police did not provide details on what sort of accident may have occurred and have added there appears to be no foul play.

Hancock was a cheerleader all four years at C. Milton Wright, was a member of the Student Government Association and participated in the school’s Dancing with a Teacher fundraising event, said Marlene Molter, the school’s principal.

Her body was transported to the chief medical examiner’s office in Baltimore, where a cause and manner of death will be determined.
