Darlene Dietrich identified as woman who died in Utah snowstorm

Authorities have identified a woman who died after she tried to walk for help when her car got stuck during a snow storm in southwestern Utah.

Darlene Dietrich and Michael Meunier were driving when their car got stuck in rural Washington County Tuesday night during the storm that hit the Rocky Mountain region, officials stated on Friday.

Dietrich’s body was found about three miles north of the vehicle, while Meunier was found by snowmobilers near Enterprise Reservoir.

The sheriff’s office received a call Wednesday about the missing vehicle and two passengers who had become stranded headed north on the remote dirt road late Tuesday night.

The area was accessible only by snowmobile during the search because of heavy snowfall, police said.

Ty March, fire chief for the town of Enterprise, told Kutv that he believed the couple were “just driving through to go fishing and not familiar with the area and then the snow came in last night.”

“The roads are not very good up there. We had to get up there on snow mobiles,” Chief March said.

Police are treating the incident as an accident.

Sheriff’s authorities are awaiting autopsy results.
