‘Dark Knight Rises’ star Marion Cotillard shines at premiere of ‘Rust & Bone’
After winning an Oscar for her role in the French film, “La Vie en rose’ (“Life in Pink”), actress Marion Cotillard has been turning heads and garnering praise for roles in American films. After “Inception,” Cotillard reunited with director Christopher Nolan for a role in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Now Cotillard headlines again in a French film “Rust & Bone,” which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday.
“Rust & Bone” is a love story about a killer whale trainer (Cotillard) and a homeless drifter named Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts) who first meet at a club where he’s landed a job as a bouncer. After a horrible accident, the unlikely pair connect.
French director Jacques Audiard (“A Prophet”, “Read My Lips”) delicately weaves an emotional rollercoaster as Cotillard’s performance is sure to garner some Oscar considerations.
The fallout from the whale accident may have been less challenging that the sex scenes for the “Big Fish” actress.
“The sex and the flesh is really part of the story, and it had to be in the movie. You know when you rediscover your body, love, life . . . there’s something very deep and strong, and both characters are, I think, very sexy,” Cotillard states answering questions from the press.
Cotillard starred in this summer’s Batman blockbuster as Miranda Tate in the conclusion of the Nolan directed trilogy.
“The Dark Knight Rises” is still in theaters, but “Rust & Bone” has no official release information in the US. In 2013, Cotillard will star alongside Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye in “The Avengers”) in an untitled James Gray directed film and a 1970s crime drama titled “Blood Ties.”
