‘Dark Knight Rises’ director Christopher Nolan to rewrite and direct ‘Interstellar’
Christopher Nolan appears to be primed to follow his Batman trilogy by joining with his brother Jonathan Nolan on a new sci-fi film that he has written. Titled Interstellar, Nolan will reportedly direct and produce the picture in news that came this week, but the “Dark Knight” director will also coordinate a rewrite as revealed in details revealed on Thursday by Collider.
Jonathan Nolan’s script was on the table for Steven Spielberg to direct, but now the brothers appear to be reuniting to bring the science fiction to the screen.
The story is inspired by the work of physicist Kip Thorne and involves a group of explorers traveling through a wormhole, where they encounter time travel and alternate dimensions.
Chris Nolan is penning a script that merges an original idea of his with the previous script that Jonathan Nolan wrote, which is exactly how the pair collarborated on “Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The report says the film “will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest borders of our scientific understanding.” The deal is being set up at Paramount with Chris Nolan, Emma Thomas,and Lynda Obst producing, but Nolan’s longtime studio Warner Bros. will also be in the fold as a co-production partner with Paramount. Thorne will remain onboard as a technical consultant.
