‘Dark Knight Rises’ director Christopher Nolan serious about doing a Bond film
One of the most anticipated film of the summer is the finale of Christopher Nolan directed Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises,” which lands in theaters next month. In an exclusive “Rises” Empire Magazine, the director discusses some future projects, his failed Howard Hughes film and a possible stint on James Bond.
Via The Playlist, published on Monday, Nolan spoke to Empire Magazine, confirming that a Howard Hughes biopic using Michael Drosnin’s “Citizen Hughes: The Power, the Money and the Madness” as source material is now defunct. Nolan joked about Bruce Wayne filling the void.
“Luckily I managed to find another wealthy, quirky character who’s orphaned at a young age.”
While the “Inception” director appears to have a pretty empty plate, other than producing Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” Superman reboot, he mentioned interest in directing a James Bond film.
“It would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things.”
Nolan does cite Bond as a key influence in “Batman Begins” and the “Inception” final sequence in the snow inspired specifically from “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Moreover, the “Insomnia” director appears to have met with MGM about working on the franchise in the past, so a Nolan reboot could be around the corner in a few years.
The special “Dark Knight Rises” issue of Empire, with much more from the director, is on newsstands now.
“Rises” stars Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, all returning to reprise their roles from the first two Batman films. Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Pence and Marion Cotillard join the cast for the Batman conclusion.
“The Dark Knight Rises” opens in theaters on July 20,, 2012.
