Daniel Kudrna and Catherine Kudrna identified in Illinois murder suicide
An Illinois man is believed to have shot his wife to death and then turned the gun on himself Friday, authorities said Saturday.
Daniel Kudrna, 55, and Catherine Kudrna, 54, were found dead Friday afternoon in their home, according to a statement emailed from the DuPage County coroner, Dr. Richard Jorgensen.
The two died in an apparent murder-suicide, according to police.
Police were called to the home about 5:05 p.m. Friday following a report of a woman yelling for help, “followed by the sound of gunfire,” Bloomingdale Police Chief Frank Giammarese said.
Officers found the woman in the garage and the man in the home, both dead from gunshot wounds, Giammarese said.
It appears the husband shot his wife, then shot himself in the head with the same gun, the coroner’s office said.
Police and the coroner’s office continue to investigate, pending completion of toxicology and forensic autopsy studies.
“There is no danger or threat and we are not actively looking for any suspects,” Giammarese told Bloomingdale residents in a post on his department’s Facebook page. “Please keep the family of these people in your thoughts and prayers.”
