D23: ‘Lady and the Tramp’ trailer, photos tease the classic romantic film set for Disney+
Fans at the D23 Expo go the first look at Charlie Bean‘s Lady and the Tramp (2019) movie trailer, a sneak at the live action adaptation set for Disney+ and Tessa Thompson, Justin Theroux, Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
Check out the footage below.
Thankfully, the film was NOT moved to a modern day setting, set in the late 1900s-early 1910s. Like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and others, this new Lady and the Tramp is a relatively faithful adaptation, as opposed to a drastic re-imagining like Maleficent.
The romantic classic film centers around an American cocker spaniel named Lady (voiced by Thompson) who is raised in an upper middle-class family, living the life of luxury. She is center of her owners’ world until they have a child. Lady’s world is forever changed once she meets a street-smart Schnauzer mix named Tramp (voiced by Theroux), who introduces Lady to a whole new world full of romantic adventures together.
The other key cast are Sam Elliot as Trusty the Bloodhound, Ashley Jensen as Jock the Scottish Terrier (a male character in the original), Benedict Wong as Bull the Bulldog and Janelle Monáe as Peg the Pekingese.
The entire cast of dogs in this new live-action project is made up of rescue dogs, all of whom were adopted once the film had wrapped.
The latest live action remake of the animated classic arrives in November with the Disney+ streaming service.
Lady and the Tramp also stars Adrian Martinez, Arturo Castro, Ken Jeong and F. Murray Abraham.
Clemons and Mann are playing Darling and Jim Dear, Lady’s owners, while the supporting cast includes Yvette Nicole Brown as Aunt Sarah and Martinez plays the dog catcher.
Behind the camera, Tron: Uprising’s Charlie Bean directed and Support the Girls’ Andrew Bujalski wrote the script. In addition to her acting role, Janelle Monáe will also perform three new songs for Lady and the Tramp, including the one that’s replacing “The Siamese Cat Song” from the original.
