Cyclospora outbreak tops 500 nationwide, Florida reports case number 27
The cyclospora outbreak that has affected people in 16 states has eclipsed the 500 case mark reaching 504, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) update today.

At least 30 individuals to date have been hospitalized for the parasitic disease.
Food Poisoning Bulletin reported yesterday, this is the largest multi-state food poisoning outbreak since 2010 and ranks fourth largest among such outbreaks in the last five years.
In the state of Florida, the number of cases increased by one, bringing the total in the Sunshine State to 27.
The following counties have been affected: Alachua (3), Dade (1), Duval (4), Flagler (1), Hamilton (1), Hillsborough (4), Lake (2), Lee (1), Leon (1), Nassau (1), Orange (1), Pasco (1), Pinellas (3), Seminole (1), Union (1) and Volusia (1).
At least one person required hospitalization.
Last Friday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported it had confirmed that the source of the outbreaks in Iowa and Nebraska was salad mix from Taylor Farms de Mexico, a processor of foodservice salads.
The CDC says it is not yet clear whether the cases from all of the states are part of the same outbreak.
