‘Creed’ star Tessa Thompson joins ‘Thor Ragnarok’

Creed star Tessa Thompson is joining the expanding Marvel Universe, first with an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok and likely returning for several other films. The Wrap reported the news while Natalie Portman is presumed to be absent from the upcoming third Thor film.

Sif and Thor dark world photoTaika Waititi is directing the comic book sequel, which will see Chris Hemsworth return as the titular superhero. Thompson will play Thor’s new love interest, following in the footsteps of her future “Annihilation” co-star Natalie Portman, notes TheWrap.

Tom Hiddleston and Jamie Alexander will also return for Ragnarok, joined by Oscar winner Cate Blanchett and Mark Ruffalo, who will reprise his Avengers role as the Hulk (possibly being shipped off Earth to set up the Planet Hulk narrative).

Ragnarok is rumored to not be spending much time down on Midgard (a.k.a. Earth), which may explains why Stellan Skarsgard’s Dr. Erik Selvig won’t be back either. (and presumably that Kat Dennings’ Darcy will not be appearing either.)

Thompson starred in Justin Simien‘s Dear White People and Ava DuVernay‘s Selma before landing the role in Ryan Coogler‘s Creed. She’s now shooting HBO’s Westworld, and has garnered notice for her supporting role in John Michael McDonagh’s War on Everyone.

Thor: Ragnarok is set to arrive in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.

Marvel then follows Ragnarok with Black Panther (Nov. 3, 2017) and Marvel’s The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 (May 4, 2018)
