Creator Todd McFarlane says new ‘Spawn’ film could begin filming next year
Comic-book writer Todd McFarlane is currently working on the script for a brand new live-action Spawn movie, and has suggested that the film could go into production as early as 2014.
Talking to The Gate, McFarlane revealed that he’s struck a deal to write, produce and direct the reboot, which should have a modest budget and could star a big name.
“I think it’s a quick shoot,” he explained. “It’s not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects; it’s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one.”
McFarlane has said the deal has been done before, but distracting other projects have delayed the reboot.
“I’ve got so many people phoning now that I’ve got to get it done. I’ve made some promises to people this year.”
McFarlane wouldn’t reveal just who he’s spoken with about donning Spawn’s suit this time around, but he did state that many of them are “Academy awards guys”
Fans are inferring that this could mean Jamie Foxx.
“Once we get this [script] done, we’ll get it off the ground with some big names,” he promises. “[The producers] want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So, that’s the goal right now.”
So Spawn fans, stay tuned, more news appear to be just over the horizon.
